The Dolomites are a mountainous area in the north east of Italy. The nearest airports are Venice and Verona and the biggest train station serving the area is in Bolzano. This breathtaking region around the is one of the most beautiful places on earth. This picturesque countryside is full of rugged mountains, scenic hikes, beautiful lakes with brilliant turquoise waters, and charming, tiny villages straight out of a fairytale.

Val di Funes is the mountain valley known for the most iconic picture postcard card of the Dolomites – the little church of the St. Magdelana against the impressive mountain backdrop. Santa Maddalena is honestly one of the most beautiful places one would have ever seen in their entire life. It would be difficult to believe this is a real place. It is so quiet and peaceful here. All you will hear is the faint jingling of bells from the cows grazing in the distance.

Val Gardena is one of the best known regions of the Italian Dolomites and the place to be in summer or in the winters. Another must visit place in the Dolomites is Lake Braies. This is perhaps the most beautiful mountain lakes in Italy or maybe the whole of Europe. It is surrounded by tall mountain peaks that make for a picture perfect scenery. One can hike around the lake taking in different views of the mountains above, or rent a row-boat and float on the surface of its deep blue-green water.

The list of the most beautiful sights of the Dolomites would be incomplete without mentioning about the highest mountains in the region, the Marmolada, also referred to as the Queen of the Dolomites. At a height of 3,265 metres, Marmolada offers panoramic views of the entire Dolomites region , right up to the Austrian Tyrol mountains. Despite its high altitude, Marmolada is very easy to visit with taking a series of cable cars.

Passo Gardena is a stunning beautiful mountain pass and one of the must drive through roads in the Dolomites. It is on the quickest route between Val Gardena and Lake Braies, two of the most popular places in the Dolomites.

Cortina D’Ampezzo is probably the most popular mountain resort of the Italian dolomites. This is a small town surrounded by some of the best mountain scenery and your base for exploring some of the most beautiful places in the region. It is also one of the most popular places for skiing in the Dolomites.

Lake Misurina is amongst the most beautiful and scenic lakes of the Dolomites which can be reached easily.
